Age of children by Dependent children (England and Wales) 2011

Dataset population: Households with dependent children

Age of children

There is no age limit applied to the definition of a child. For example, a married couple living with their 40-year-old son would be classified as a family consisting of a married couple and their child (unless the son has a spouse, same-sex civil partner, partner or child living in the same household).

Dependent children

A dependent child is any person aged 0 to 15 in a household (whether or not in a family) or a person aged 16 to 18 in full-time education and living in a family with his or her parent(s) or grandparent(s). It does not include any people aged 16 to 18 who have a spouse, partner or child living in the household.
