This dataset provides Census 2022 estimates for Sexual Orientation by Sex by Age (15 Groups) in Scotland.

Sexual Orientation

Scotland’s Census included a new question on sexual orientation in 2022. This means that there are not comparable data for previous censuses.

Sexual orientation is an umbrella term covering sexual identity, attraction, and behaviour. The term sexual orientation may mean different things to different people.

This was a voluntary question for people aged 16 and over.

Age

A person's age on Census Day, 20 March 2022. Infants aged under 1 year are classified as 0 years of age.

Sex

This is the sex recorded by the person completing the census. The options were "Female" and "Male". Guidance on answering the question can be found here
